Blogger Guest Blog: Shalonda from Shalonda's Blog

Shalonda is the lovely person behind Shalonda's Blog. Here she is telling us what she wishes she knew when she was sixteen. =)

---

There are so many things I wish I would have known when I was sixteen; however, one thing really sticks out. My advice for all sixteen year olds is to make time for your younger siblings.

When I was younger (elementary age), my sister and I spent all our time together. We were total opposites. I was so shy that I couldn't place my own order at McDonald's, and she was always in trouble for talking to strangers. Even though she was bossy and kind of a bully, she was my best friend. We spent our days making radio shows and putting on hour long talent shows for our parents. We spent our nights telling each other secrets and trying to see who could stay up the longest.

That all changed when I reached middle school. No longer did we share a room or many of the same interests. I became a cheerleader and spent most of my weekends at the movies with my friends or hosting slumber parties. My sister continued on with her adventures, attending summer camps and playing sports.

By the time I turned sixteen, both my sister and I had matured tremendously. Because I was a new driver, my mother often made me bring my sister along whenever I would go somewhere. At the time, it seemed liked such a hassle. I mean, who wants to have their younger sister tagging along? But now, I see it was a blessing in disguise. During our car rides, my sister and I were able to regain our bond, singing along with the radio or sharing high school gossip. But of course, when we reached our destination, I usually ditched her (luckily my friends' younger sisters were good friends of my sister).

Ten years later, the one person from high school I remain close to is my sister. She truly is the best friend I could ever ask for. Loyal, patient, hilarious, and sweet--all the reasons that when I get married next summer, she'll be standing right next to me!

High school friendships and loves fade. Be sure to find time for your younger siblings. Because through all life's hardships and happy moments, you'll be glad to have someone to share them with!

Thanks, Shalonda!

hope.
