Along for the Ride - Sarah Dessen

I'm probably the last person to review this, but oh well!

Summary:

It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live.

A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she’s been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend.

In her signature pitch-perfect style, Sarah Dessen explores the hearts of two lonely people learning to connect.

Review:

This is one of my favorite Dessen novels. Though they all have (roughly) the same outline, this one seemed a bit different than all of her other novels - though I don't exactly know why. I loved how it was set on the beach. It was written really well so that I could feel like I was there at the beach.

I also loved the idea of riding a bike - how so many people know how, but she doesn't know how, because of her upbringing. There are more things like this that she didn't learn, which are talked about in the book, but this is the one that comes up over and over again, and I like it.

Overall, one of Dessen's best novels. Recommend it 100%.

hope.

You definitely won't be the last to review it because I haven't even started it yet! But your review makes me really, really excited to!

I thought the relationship with Auden's mom and Hollis was like an oedipus complex. Then Hollis gets a girlfriend who looks and acts JUST LIKE HIS MOTHER. I was like, AHA!

Can't wait to read this - I'm doing Em's Bookshelf's Sarah Dessen Challenge so I have an excuse to read this before some of my other books.

I found your blog via googling this book and I thought I should comment. :) I read this last week! It's a good book and I did like it. It was true to Sarah Dessen's style. I found Auden and Eli's relationship really cute and how they got to know one other was really interesting and unique. Insomniacs unite!
