Interview with Greg Logsted!

Greg Logsted is the author of the already released Something Happened and the upcoming Alibi Junior High. Thanks for being here today, Greg!

---

When did you realize you wanted to be an author?

First of all, Hope, thanks for inviting me! Let’s see, I guess it was around third grade. I wrote a story that the teacher shared with the class and that set something off in my head.

Do you listen to music when you write? If so, do you have a certain playlist that you listen to?

I can’t listen to anything with lyrics. Mostly I write in silence but if there’s noise around the house I’ll put on my headphones and listen to something.

Are you currently working on another novel? If yes, are you allowed to tell us about it?

I am working on something! But I just started so I feel strange talking about it. I don’t want to jinx it. (I will say it’s completely different.)

Something Happened is about a teacher-student relationship. How did you decide you wanted to write about this topic?

For a while stories like this were always on the news. I wanted to write about the backstory. What led up the newspaper headlines, how did they meet, that kind of stuff.

What made you want to write for young adults and not children or adults?

I really like writing YA. It’s fun. It’s like my personal time machine to my old teenage years. I’ve done some children’s stories and I’m sure I’ll do something for adults too. YA is just what I enjoy writing now.

What has been the most rewarding thing about being an author?

Seeing my book in a bookstore.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be, and why?

I’d like to fly. My favorite dreams are the ones when I’m flying. It must be what I really want.

If you could have any kind of exotic animal as a pet, what would it be and why?

Maybe a lion. It would be fun to watch the expressions on friends’ faces when he walks into the room.

What is your advice to aspiring teen authors?

The best advice is the simplest. Write every day, not once in a while, but every day.

Ask yourself a question and answer it. (:

So, Greg, I hear you have a new book coming out June 23, 2009. Tell us a bit about it.

Great question, Greg! It’s called, ALIBI JUNIOR HIGH. Here’s a bit about it.

Thirteen-year-old Cody Saron has never lived in one place longer than a few weeks, and has never attended a regular school. Growing up on the run with his father, an undercover agent for the CIA, Cody has traveled the entire globe; he speaks five languages, and he has two black belts. What Cody isn't prepared for is...junior high.

When the danger surrounding Cody's dad heats up, Cody is sent to stay with the aunt he's never known, Jenny, in her small Connecticut suburb. Cody has no idea how to fit in with other kids, how to handle his first crush, or how to make it through a day of classes.

As Cody struggles to adapt to the one thing he's never experienced -- a normal life -- he starts to fear that his father's world has followed him and no one he loves is safe.

Thank you, Greg!

hope.
