If I Stay by Gayle Forman

Summary:

In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeenyear- old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she fi nds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...

A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make—and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

Review:

Let me begin by saying that I really liked this book. It was sad, but it wasn't as sad as I thought it was going to be. Gayle Forman did a great job of writing Mia's story and keeping people interested in it and wanting to push through to the story to figure out what Mia's decision was.

I loved how music played such an important part in this book. And it wasn't just one type of music either -- it was a variety of Mia's classical playing and her boyfriend, Adam's rock band playing. The both played important parts in the book and it was amazing to see how Gayle wrote about it.

My one issue with this book was the ending. It wasn't horrible by any long shot, it just seemed to open for me. I'm a hard pleaser with endings -- I either think they're not open, or way to open, and this one was really open to me.

Otherwise, If I Stay was a very prime (blame Liv for this word) novel that will leave a lasting impression on you.

Four hearts!

hope.

Sounds really good, but it just doesn't look like it's for me. Lovely cover though!
