Willow - Juila Hoban

Summary:

Seven months ago, on a rainy March night, sixteen year- old Willow’s parents died in a horrible car accident. Willow was driving. Now her older brother barely speaks to her, her new classmates know her as the killer orphan girl, and Willow is blocking the pain by secretly cutting herself. But when one boy —one sensitive, soulful boy—discovers Willow’s secret, it sparks an intense relationship that turns the “safe” world Willow has created for herself upside down.

Told in an extraordinary fresh voice, Willow is an unforgettable novel about one girl’s struggle to cope with tragedy, and one boy’s refusal to give up on her.

Review:

First off, I want to start by letting you know that I couldn't say a bad thing about this book if I had to. There are just so many good, amazing things about it, and nothing about it was flawed. At all.

I don't even know where to begin with this book. It was just so . . . raw, honest, and REAL. This situation could be put into a real life scene and it would fit. It's definitely a real life, could-happen-to-anyone-you-know novel.

The characters were written wonderfully. They all had there flaws as a character, but everyone has flaws, no one's perfect. And the way Willow was written. Wonderfully. I mean, it can't be easy to write about a girl who is seventeen and is cutting herself because she thought it was her fault that her parents died. Besides Willow, all of the characters were written wonderfully and it's like you can see into all of their minds and understand what kinds of things they're thinking and how they view other people in the story, Willow in particular.

Willow was written in third person, and as some of you know, I'm not a big fan of third person. However, I read though this book with no problem, even if it is third person. Julia Hoban still manages to have you understand what's going on in Willow's mind and her way of thinking without it being written in first person.

And, we all know we're not supposed to, but we do it anyway: judge books by their covers. If you don't think this cover is amazing, where have you been living? It really goes along with the book and it's really pretty.

I tried to keep my fangirlyness level down for this review, but I don't think I succeeded. I feel like I haven't give the book any justice, because it's just that good. I actually wanted to read it slower so I could savor every single moment of reading it. This is definitely a book I will be re-reading in the future.

Willow will be released on April 2, 2009, go pre-order your copy now, it's definitely a good use of your money.

SIX HEARTS! Yes. Willow has entered new territory as far as ratings go. :)

hope.
