Interview with Elizabeth Scott!

Elizabeth Scott is the author of Perfect You, Stealing Heaven, Bloom, and Living Dead Girl (which will be reviewed here soon!). I have loved all of her books, and if you haven't read one of them yet, you should try to read them!

What was the weirdest time that you got inspiration for a novel?

When I was scrubbing a toilet. (!)

What was your inspiration for each of your published books: Perfect You, Bloom, Stealing Heaven, and Living Dead Girl?

You can actually read "the story behind the story" for every single one of my books on my website--some of them are pretty straightforward, and some of them are a little different.

What kind of music do you listen to?

All kinds--I listen to a little bit of everything. I'm more of a song person than an artist/album person.

What is a day in your life typically like?

Get up, answer emails, do writing work related stuff (take care of site, etc.), exercise, write. If I have any free time I like to unwind by reading, watching tv, hanging out with friends or my husband and dog.

Are you writing anything right now? If so, are you allowed to tell us anything about it yet?

I am! I have two books coming out next year--Something, Maybe will be out on March 24th, and Love You Hate You Miss You will be out in June.

When did you first know you wanted to be a writer?

Writing really snuck up on me! I didn't start writing until I was 27 (!) but once I started, I just had so much fun I didn't want to stop.

What is your advice to aspiring teen authors?

Well, since you probably already have the writing thing down, I'd say read. Read as much as you can, and read all kinds of books.

Who are your favorite young adult authors and/or books?

Judy Blume was the author who really understood how I felt when I was younger--I still remember reading Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret in fourth grade and thinking "Wow. This is stuff I wonder about!!" And now--well, now there are so many amazing young adult novelists (and books!) out there that I just can't pick favorites.

Do any of your characters have any experiences based on your teenage years?

Nope! I like writing because I get to tell stories. Writing about myself would be so boring!

What kinds of things do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love to read and watch tv. And, of course, I have to check out all the gossip blogs.

Ask yourself a question and then answer it!

Favorite epitaph?

I told you I was sick.
